Can human beings ever truly be equal?

What would the world look like if all people were actually treated equally? Do we have the capacity to be completely fair and just? I think there are many of us that would like to think it is possible. However, I'm not quite convinced that all people have the ability. A world where all people are equal seems like something out of science fiction. In our world today, there are thousands of examples of inequality and just plain wrong-doing. Sometimes I wish I could take all of the people I love and find a deserted island to build my own community. But would the same issues and human weakness follow us and turn paradise to chaos?

I'm not going to run away and start my own society. As I've examined the question of fairness in my adult life, I have come to the conclusion that all I can really control is how I treat people. I can endeavor to be fair and just, and I can surround myself with fair and just people. By living this way, I hope to still create that deserted island community without running away from the world that is our reality.

  1. I agree. I believe that the world should not be equal as well.

  2. I really enjoyed reading this. It really makes you think about how the world truly is and how there are some pretty unfair advantages people get.

  3. I thought this was similar to my opinion about everyone being equal. I especially like the part about only being in control about yourself, and I also liked the example of taking your family to a deserted island.

  5. This was very good, It really makes you think about what our world is like today. There are alot of advantages that other people have, But all we really can do is be good to others in our own way and in the way that we can.

  7. It's true that people shouldn't be treated equal int this world. It's also true that people shouldn't just start their own community because they think people aren't equal where they lived.

  8. I personally disagree with this. I feel that it is possible but the only way for it to happen is if we have a common enemy, like some sort of alien life which actually is pretty likely as there are billions of stars in the universe.

  9. So you don't think this could ever happen? We all could be equal like in that short story about every wearing handicap machines. We could all be equal and not fight by also having one enemy like an alien race.

  10. I agree with you about how it would be nice if we were all equal but it seems that we don't have the ability like you said.

  11. I don't think equality would be possible, our world thrives on competition.

  12. I think that if this world was equal it would be very very boring. Because no one would be different and sometimes different is good.
